"Made me feel like a human"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

In Dec 2022 I found a small pea size lump - albeit one apparently only I can feel, until I went to a private clinic and they also felt it lightly.

I couldn’t afford to go FT on the Private route so I came back through the NHS and have waited 12 months to see someone - I recently saw a doctor and left feeling less than impressed with my patient/Dr - care.

I was so upset and left in anguish. I wrote to the Health board with my concerns and was brought back to see Dr Sokolova in a night clinic.

Wow, the difference she and her female practitioner nurse made to my otherwise awful and excruciatingly painful Gynea exam was night and day.

I cannot thank Dr Sokolova and her nurse enough for making me feel like a human, welcome, listened to me, made me feel enlightened with my otherwise horrid personal burden. I have to mimic the words of someone else's comment above, as it puts it beautifully.

Most of all she made me feel individual and communicated to me as a Doctor, but also as a woman herself.

Considering her clinic was running behind, she did not make me feel rushed & I left feeling motivated by the health advice she had given me. The nurse who was with Dr Solokova was equally supportive.

Most of my communication was with Dr, however the nurse listened and appeared to really care and empathised. She appeared genuinely interested and keen to help. A nurse who without even saying much, displayed body language which invites patients to feel cared for and at ease.

Wow, these two are a team and a half and the NHS should be proud to have caring, considerate, kind and empathetic women like them that not only build you up, but make you feel like you are more than just another number with ailments.

My warmest regards to them, and I can only hope they will both kindly lead me forward in my journey which is just at the starting grounds of resolution.

Thank you isn’t enough. I hope I may continue to be lucky enough to see them as a team because I wouldn’t choose anyone else, now I can see the quality between patient care and patient distress - I couldn’t ask for more.

My first visit left me feeling overwhelmed/ disheartened and wanting someone’s time.

After my second visit with Dr Soklova, I was amazed at the difference in approaches between two doctors in the same profession.
