"The care I received was of an exceptional standard"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / General Surgery Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / High Dependency Unit & Intensive Care Unit Victoria Hospital / Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Western General Hospital / Oncology

(as the patient),

Following an endoscopy where I was advised I had a cancer of oesophagus, a programme of care was outlined.

Following four sessions of chemotherapy at West General in Edinburgh I underwent surgery at Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.

Following a period in intensive care and in ward care I returned home some two weeks later.

After six weeks I then underwent a further three  sessions of chemotherapy again at Western General in Edinburgh.

During this period all the care I received was of an exceptional standard.

The upper GI team based at Kirkcaldy, especially Kerris.

The oncologist, Dr Christie.

The Chemotherapy team at Western General

The surgical team at Royal Infirmary under surgeon Mr Skipworth

The ICU team at Royal infirmary

Dietary advice from Kerrie at Dunfermline

All assisted in my care and recovery superbly.

Dear herculescm84,

I really appreciate the time you have taken to provide some feedback to the various teams involved with your care.

I am very reassured to hear that you felt that all care received was of such a high standard especially given the various sites and teams involved, and through what I imagine to be a very difficult time for you.

Finally, and most importantly, I am delighted to hear that you are on your road to recovery and hope that this continues to go smoothly for you.

If there are any issues or questions in the future, please as ever, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Wishing you all the best

Kerys
