"Preventing hospital admission"

About: Lisburn Community Services / Enhanced Care At Home Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / First responder paramedic

(as a relative),

My 92 year old mother who resides in a nursing home in the SET area developed a chest infection before Christmas. It was decided that she should be admitted to hospital by the home and an ambulance was called. After this I was contacted however I indicated that given her age and acute pressures that every possible action should be taken to prevent admission via ambulance and ED. The paramedic who attended felt more care was needed as her vital signs were concerning however agreed that nursing I reach to the home should be explored.

The paramedic managed to secure this service and within a few hours my Mum was started on IV antibiotics, her bloods were taken to the labs and she was started on Oxygen. The home and service agreed a care plan for her. We were so relieved that attendance/admission had been prevented through this geriatrician led service from SET

Dear Cushendall12

Thank you for sharing the story of your mother's healthcare experience.

It is great to hear that the most practical and effective care solution was reached and that your mother benefitted from hospital-level care in her own living environment.

Enhanced Care at Home Service provides excellent clinical care for our unwell loved ones for whom a hospital stay is not the most practical answer.

I have shared your positive feedback to the team who greatly appreciate your kind words.

I hope that your mother keeps well.

Best wishes

Conor.
