I started my radiotherapy treatment in November. This is my second time round - I had breast cancer 2 years ago and now have bowel cancer and might also have throat cancer. I think the bowel screening system works well as I sent mine off, got a phone call two days later and was seen in Ninewells the following week. Two weeks later I had a colonoscopy and was then given the bad news by the doctor in Perth who was very gentle in the way he told me.
My treatment in Radiotherapy has been excellent - could not ask for nicer people.
One suggestion I have is that people should be told to bring a change of clothes - in case there is an accident. This happened to me and it was very embarrassing. If I’d had a change of clothes it would have been so much easier to deal with the situation.
Another thing I do is bring a little squeezy bottle of juice with me - makes the water easier and more pleasant to take.
Car parking is, needless to say, a big problem. My partner brings me in and usually waits in the car or goes for a coffee to the Maggi Centre. He is a very private person but benefits from talking to the folk in the Maggi centre. They give you lots of information and look after partners as well, which I am grateful for.
"Could not ask for nicer people."
