"Recent hysterectomy"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Xray and Scans Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gynaecology (Ward 49) The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was referred to Stobhill hospital by my GP in April 2023 due to bleeding - I am in my 70s. I had examinations, blood tests etc which found a cyst growing and I was referred for an urgent CT scan. I did not receive an appt and assumed this was down to backlogs.

In October I had to be admitted to the Queen Elizabeth hospital urgently with excruciating pain where they found a 16cm cyst and a 6cm cyst growing and strangulating an ovary. After a Multi Discipline Meeting to discuss the best way for my case, I was admitted to the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, under the care of Dr Burton and his team. Dr Burton explained I would have a full hysterectomy as well as the removal of the cysts.  He also advised that there was a risk of finding cancer.

During the op the team found a cyst attached to the bowel and wrapped 5 times round an ovary, hence the horrendous pain.  Dr Burton was so attentive and explained everything prior and after the operation.  I received a call from a Specialist Nurse, Carol, 10 days after I came home,  who was so helpful after my op, and she confirmed no cancer had been found.  What a relief!  I can’t tell you how grateful I am to Dr Burton and his team, and my Consultant at the QE hospital who identified the problem, Dr Hardie. Thank you also to the MDT who made recommendations for my early treatment.

Unfortunately, I never did receive the Urgent CT scan which was meant to be arranged for me by the Stobhill Consultant in April 2023!   Maybe a lesson to be learned is to chase up your appointments for scans etc and don’t just think the delay is down to backlogs as sometimes it’s not!

Dear Stop this carry on

Thank you for finding the time to feedback regarding your experience during what must have been a stressful time.

I am delighted to hear Dr Burton was very attentive and our specialist nurse Carol was very helpful following you up after your surgery.

Dr Hardie will also appreciate the feedback that she identified this issue and referred you to MDT.

I will be sure to pass this on to the team.

If you contact me on:
