"The overall support and care that I had was next level"

About: Northern Health & Social Care Trust / Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service (The Lotus Team)

(as the patient),

Throughout both of my pregnancies I had the pleasure of being cared for by the ladies in the Lotus Team. I cannot praise them enough for their care and support given during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum.

With my son (2021) I had Rachael with me throughout my induction in Causeway, although it had resulted in a C-Section, she done everything to make me and my partner feel at ease. When she visited 3 days postpartum with both of my children (2021 & 2023), Rachael again done everything she could to help put myself and my partner at ease after an unpleasant experience with a community midwife. Rachael has such a kind and caring approach to everything and is fantastic at her job!

I also had Kirsty during both of my postpartum visits, in 2021 she had been the one to remove my dressing on day 7, she has a really down to earth personality and has a way of being so relatable to the realities of parenthood. This was something that both myself and my partner found so helpful. Kirsty also removed the remainder of my staples from my C-Section in 2023. I was extremely nervous about the rest of them being removed, but again Kirsty done everything she could to make me feel as comfortable as possible and took her time to make sure I was okay throughout the process.

Jess had came out on day 7 with my daughter, she had removed part of my staples as this was what I felt comfortable with after having my first section scar reopen and have an infection in it I felt like an extra few days with some added support would be the right decision for me. From the moment Jess came in, she was absolutely lovely, so easy to chat to, made me feel really comfortable in her presence, again, Jess took her time with the removal of the staples due to how nervous I was, checking in with how I was feeling. She also took her time during the visit to check in with me how I was feeling, answer any concerns and provide advice where needed.

Jordan was my midwife throughout my pregnancy and delivery with my daughter, I truly cannot give her high enough praise for how she was throughout my whole pregnancy! Jordan has a really calm presence, during all of my appointments we had so many laughs, she always knew the right things to say, reassured me about the delivery I wanted, always knew the right things to say to help & she was always so patient anytime I had to bring my son to an appointment. Jordan was also fantastic at advocating for me and what I needed. She always made me feel like I was being listened to!

When I had went in for my c-section it was 4:30pm before I had my daughter due to there being a few emergencies that had came in, although this wasn't ideal, Jordan couldn't apologise enough for the wait and as soon as it was my time, Jordan done everything she could to make it a lovely experience. Although the C-Section itself didn't turn out to be as smooth as my son's had been, Jordan still made the experience calm and relaxing. Jordan held our daughter during recovery to allow us both to get something to eat as it had been a long day with no food, she talked through everything that had happened during the section to help us understand it.

When Jordan had came out during the postpartum visits, she went through everything that happened again when I could actually take it in, she also advocated for me when I had concerns over a possible infection at the incision and when I needed antibiotics made sure I had the correct ones, she always took the time to make sure I was comfortable, that I was feeling okay within myself, to answer any concerns I had.

I honestly can't speak highly enough of the ladies, they were all absolutely amazing! They are a great bunch and made both of my pregnancy experiences so enjoyable! They are all an absolute credit to themselves and the NHS! The overall support and care that I had from the Lotus Team was next level and I can't thank them enough for everything they done!

Dear giftzj65,

Firstly congratulations on the births of both of your children. Thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback surrounding your experiences within the Lotus Team. It is a testament to the team that you chose to be part of the continuity of midwifery carer team for both of your pregnancies', births and early parenting periods.

I will of course pass on your feedback to the team as they value it so much.

We have exciting plans within the Trust to expand our continuity of midwifery carer provision ensuring more women will have the opportunity to experience their care facilitated by a small team of midwives through, pregnancy, birth and the early parenting period.

I note your comment in relation to your experience with a community midwife. I am more than happy to discuss this with you in more detail. I have included my contact details below for you to get in touch if you would like to avail of the opportunity.

Once again, thank you for your feedback giftzj65,

Best Wishes,

Rachel Chakravarti
