"Waiting time at A&E"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

We came with our toddler son recently. He had a really bad cough in the early morning, so we decided to go.

When we registered, we were told to wait in the children's area, so we did. There were no other children waiting ahead of us, and we thought it wouldn't take that long. However, after waiting for nearly 2 hours, we asked at the reception about the approximate waiting time. It turns out it was a 7-hour waiting time! I mean, we do understand a lot of things, but why didn't anyone inform us about that initially? We would have tried other services.

Also, the coffee machine was broken. I mean, in what times are we living? In my opinion, there is no excuse for bad service, especially in emergency services

Good morning,

I am sorry to read about your recent experience at Stepping Hill hospital with your son.

The department and hospital was experiencing periods of significant demand and unfortunately this impacted waiting times.

I will share your feedback regarding the communication from staff regarding the wait times so the team is aware and can address this for improvement.

I will also feedback about the broken coffee machine so this can be fixed.

Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. This enables us to learn from experience and put in place measures to improve services.

Kind regards,

Patient Experience Team
