"Day Unit Staff Changes"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as the patient),

I now have to travel to Hairmyers every 3 weeks for chemotherapy at the day unit.

I have developed a close bond with a small number of the staff and they are able to tell straight away how I feel before I do. Coming to the unit makes me very withdrawn, stressed and tearful and the staff have been extremely patient with me and accommodating to my needs.

I have been told that there is going to be a change in staff and the one staff member that I rely on is being moved to another hospital.

This has built up a state of fear and panic knowing that the staff that know me will not be there.

The staff don't want to be moved and for whatever reason I am unable to change my chemo to the other hospital.

Dear Piscesca22

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the support the staff are providing in the oncology day unit. I am sorry to read that you are in a state of panic in relation to staff moves to another hospital.

I have shared your post with the senior team and they will review the situation as continuity of care is important. Please be assured that all staff that work in the unit are highly experienced and knowledgeable and that rotation across sites is often required.

However we note your concerns and want to ensure you are supported. The situation is being reviewed.

Kind regards

Lise
