"On the children’s ward everyone was so helpful &kind"

About: GPs in Devon North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency North Devon District Hospital / Paediatrics South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111

(as a parent/guardian),

I called my baby’s GP and after a few hours they still didn’t get back to me so I called 111 which with my baby’s symptoms they got me an ambulance right away. We got to A&E, she was put on oxygen and we unfortunately did have to wait 5 hours on a bed in A&E as there were no beds on the Caroline Thorpe ward.

We were told my baby had RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus) and we finally got put on the ward,

Once we were on the children’s ward everyone was so helpful and kind and really gave my baby the best care and for us mums a lot of reassurance and explained everything.

I also thought the lady’s that delivered the breakfast/dinner etc were so kind and friendly and really put as ease with there lovely conversations.

Many thanks for your feedback from your recent admission with your daughter. I’m sorry you had a wait in A&E before you were able to come to the ward due to winter pressures. I'm glad the ward staff were able to provide reassurance and good care during this difficult time. It’s great to hear our Sodexo staff put you at ease throughout your stay, they are a fantastic part of our ward. I hope your daughter made a speedy recovery and you have been able to enjoy the festive period.

Dear LLAX

Thank you so much for providing us with feedback on the recent service your child received from us, it is much appreciated! We are so glad to hear that they were well looked after by the ambulance crew who attended, though we are sorry that you both had to experience this at all.

For confidentiality, your patient information is redacted on this platform and so we cannot find the details of your incident, we would love to pass your message onto the Ambulance crew who attended you and so, if you would be willing to share some additional information, please could you email compliments@swast.nhs.uk with your name, date the ambulance arrived, address and thank you message, we will then ensure this is passed onto to the relevant crew.

Thank you again for taking the time to feedback and we do hope your child is recovering well!

Kindest regards,

Sami
