My teenage son complained of sore ears on just before Christmas and sure enough his ears were completely blocked with wax. We went to the chemist and got some treatment.
On boxing day he started to complain of pain and there was some red fluid coming from his left ear. I completed the questionnaire on NHS 24 which obviously recommended that someone would need to examine his ear.
I called NHS 24 and there was a 90 minute wait. With my son in real pain I wasn't going to wait that long to speak to a human so I went up to the local minor injuries unit.
The 2 nurses were compassionate, knowledgeable, and very quickly diagnosed the situation, which was what I had already assumed, and promptly took the correct action. I and my son were relieved and reassured and a few days later he is much better.
I understand the new system which was explained to me and can see how it is a more efficient system. I wouldn't mind traveling to different locations even if they are much further away but to wait 90 minutes to get an answer on the phone to get an appointment isn't reassuring and this probably needs to be improved if people are to have faith in the system.
The 2 nurses were excellent and my faith in people like these 2 angels will never be in doubt.
"Faith in the system"
