"Care of an 84 Year Old lady"

About: The James Cook University Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a carer),

This was complete and utter disgrace of care to an 84 year old relative that in our view simply lead to her passing away in July 2023 on Ward 11 at James Cook Hospital.

We queried why there is blood in a catheter and they acted as if we we were invisible to the eye and have not seen anything. Elderly are been attended by young student nurses we found to be inconsiderate and that I don't believe could be bothered to report to Doctors/Senior Nursing Staff about peoples high blood pressure readings as they appeared to take the view that they are not a concern or an issue to be bothered about even when you are dealing with Elderly People on an over 75's Ward with Complex Needs and Requirements. I felt the Nursing Staff carried on as if they are a protected species and so and untouchable.

I felt approaching James Cook PALS Services is like Dealing with a Crystal Ball and a Ouija Board (anybody there). I believe the Junior Doctors need training on how to issue a proper written death certificate, and on what to write on them properly in relation to a persons medical history instead of stating what they is no Evidence of.

Also carrying on without even any form of a Valid DOLS in place, if that simply abuse they position to treat without one. I felt staff members on that Ward 11 just dismissed anything you say to them as a concern of your Relative - we felt they just ply you off with excuses or better known and what we believed to be lies.

They do not even check in our relation properly as they enter a ward as it took a week to establish proper Next of Kin Contact Details. They provide ever so much nice treatment to your late Relative even when they are slapped with a Do Not Resuscitate Notice on Them and also Nil By Mouth Notice.

We found them to be a disgrace and no respect or even an ounce of understanding of people which are simply a forgotten entity now for them. As they do not respect the shoes that they are standing in today from people of that time.
