"I just felt in such safe kind hands"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

After having a rough pregnancy and a very bad experience in triage department a few days prior - safe to say my nerves where high at the thought of coming back to be in labour. I was scared to have another care provider who didn’t listen to me or felt like they didn’t care.

I couldn’t have been more wrong! We met a lovely Doctor, Claire earlier in the evening in triage who saw my pain and discomfort and agreed to get me in and get my waters going - one of the best conversations I’ve had and the best news.

Got called back three hours later into labour ward where we met Hannah and Lindsey I want to say who where amazing made sure I was comfortable walked us through what was happening, made sure me and my partner were taken care of. And a lovely paramedic trainee who definitely kept me calm throughout the night. After waters going it was pretty much them done but they stayed behind to make sure I was all good and everything was fine.

We had a lovely Ian take over, who without him I couldn’t have done it, after deciding last minute no epidural he was so supportive and was my cheerleader all the way through after breaking down and being determined I couldn’t do it he was the one that got me through was so reassuring and caring and I just felt in such safe kind hands I couldn’t have gone through that without him. He told me I was doing good let me led the way which I felt I never got last time and made me feel calm and strong. Reassured me I wasn’t being a drama queen when I felt like I was he was a pure angel.

Once she made her arrival he couldn’t have been more helpful and kind helped me shower when I felt I was going to pass out. Didn’t rush me to the ward just made sure I and baby was healthy and happy. And made me feel better after being sick everywhere and feeling the worse but he took it in his stride and dealt with it. He was the best and I’m so glad he helped me bring my daughter into the world I feel privileged to have had him with me I really appreciate him more than I can say, so hopefully this gets back to him so he can know how much of a difference he’s made to my experience and how much we appreciate him.

Even my ward experience has been lovely and felt well taken care of compared to my first baby definitely felt the love and compassion from the staff.

Hello xrayte74

Thank you so much for taking the time to write feedback about your birthing experience.

I am sorry to read that your experience in triage was not the best. We would be happy to look into this further if you wish by emailing gram.womensservices@nhs.scot.

It is good to read that your further admission to triage was positive and you felt at ease and supported. The doctor you mentioned will be delighted to read this feedback and I will ensure she sees this.

I will ensure the midwives who cared for you in labour are made aware of your lovely feedback. They will be delighted to hear that you felt so supported and calm during your labour and felt so reassured.

Thank you for your positive feedback from the postnatal ward.

I hope you are well and enjoying motherhood.

Take care

Fiona
