I was referred to an 'Alcohol Nurse' by a doctor who was looking at the health of my liver connected to heavy drinking. I had never heard of an alcohol nurse before. I was called by a Hospital Engagement Worker from the NHS Inclusion team. She was absolutely fantastic, really understood my situation, didn't judge at all (and had been in the same place once), and very supportive with brilliant advice and things to look at. I didn't even know what organisation had called me or how anything worked but she guided me through the whole thing and the only thing that mattered was my improvement.
I have been referred on for further support but talking to the engagement worker was a great experience and has already helped me improve my drinking. I have a long way to go but I feel as though I have some real support out there that can help me without judging me. I highly recommend getting in touch with this service if somebody feels they may have a problem but don't know what to do about it.
