"Care and compassion"

About: Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

I am a regular patient on ward 23 at the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy and have to say I’m always cared for and welcomed. Especially given how critically unwell I have been on previous admissions, ensuring I receive the correct treatments and support through my chronic illnesses makes a world of difference, between doctors, nurses, nursing auxiliaries, and domestics on the ward you can see clearly they work together as a team and all get along which also means a world of difference as a patient. Emma the nursing auxiliary has always made me feel cared for, supported and always ensures you have anything you’re needing, she’s also attentive towards her patients. Emma is noble and kindhearted in her job she has a fabulous way of understanding her patients needs and that’s not only to myself but as I’ve witnessed her with other patients on the ward, she makes sure that the patients needs are met and anything they need to talk about she takes the time or makes the time for her patients.

Hospital isn’t an easy place for anyone especially when vulnerable and unwell, but Emma really has the perfect characteristics for nursing, had a strong moral compass while providing integrity, and a strong focus on patient advocacy and trustworthy. But also to be noted that ward 23 staff have all been fabulous in advocating for their patients and all take a strong focus on patients needs and care levels. I can say from experience as a chronically ill person/patient who spends a vast majority of their time in hospital as inpatient and a patient who has been on many different wards over time that ward 23 has really given the best treatment, care, support and integrity toward me out of a majority of wards in the Victoria hospital as well as a few other wards I’ve been on over the years. Because of my illness it’s caused a lot of anxiety about having to stay in hospital for long periods dealing with a lot of critical issues but can proudly say that I feel less anxious and properly taken care of and always have my needs met on ward 23 by the staff nurses, auxiliaries and doctors here.

Thank you for always taking sure good care of me and for being so patient with me, I know I’m not always the easiest to take care of and know my illnesses can be complex but I’m very grateful for the care I receive from the staff.
