"Not getting a prescription"

About: General practices in Tayside

(as a service user),

I recently called to chase up my prescription at the chemist to be told that they didn't have any for me, so I called the health centre to chase up, to be told it was at chemist. We placed a prescription for diprosone cream two weeks ago which was wrong put through as diprobase which we only found out when I went to collect, asked the chemist to put through an emergency prescription which they did thankfully, at same time as this I re-ordered another prescription for diprosone cream on my repeat prescription which we are still waiting for along with another prescription which we are still waiting for.

We have been in touch with both the chemist and health centre and both are blaming each other - the health centre employee I spoke to wasn't accepting what was being said and refused to put me through to Practice Manager and kept saying they were at the chemist. The prescriptions have been completed and are on screen but where they have gone from there is a mystery. The member of staff I spoke to states that the prescriptions were put through and dispensed. The prescription we received was picked up along with diprobase order which should have been diprosone, the issue being the last time we had this issue I ended up in hospital for 3 weeks all because the health centre staff weren't and seemingly couldn't do what was expected from them.

I have given up trying to get orders from them, so only place I will end up now is hospital again.

Please note I have no complaints about any of the doctors in this health centre. It's solely about the admin and office staff, who seem to think they are a law unto themselves and can do no wrong and that they have the last say on everything.

While on phone to myself, the staff member refused to put me through to Practice Manager and that I had to put it in writing, asked for email address and got refused and told to put complaint in writing and get handed in.

I also believe the chemist over the health centre as when I called to check the whereabouts of prescription the caller got another colleague to check over everything and the pharmacist also to confirm nothing was there to collect. The last prescription for diprosone was the emergency prescription that the pharmacist put through for me.

Not getting anywhere with the call with the member of staff at the health centre, the line suddenly went dead as they had hung up on myself now as office manager that is wrong and no patient care given. They also stated that if I wanted an emergency prescription I had to come to the health centre in person to make that request by 1pm. This had never been said before by anyone in the health centre before this.

Dear The Ballroom

Thank you for your feedback, and for sharing details of your situation and the steps you have taken to try to resolve the issue. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced these difficulties obtaining a prescription from your GP practice and pharmacy. This must have caused you considerable frustration.

Feedback enables an organisation to reflect, identify areas for improvement and revise any processes as required. As each GP Practice is an independent business, we would recommend that you feedback your experience directly to the practice to enable them to do this. Your GP practice will have a Complaints and Feedback Policy which will help explain this process.

With best wishes

Victoria Sullivan
