"Outstanding care after ectopic pregnancy surgery"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward 13 for two nights after undergoing emergency keyhole surgery (laparoscopy - left salpingectomy) for an ectopic pregnancy. Which felt like this worst time of my life, the care I received from the nurses in ward 13 was more than outstanding and helped me feel more at ease.

Although staying in a hospital environment can be very overwhelming and scary for some, I had a room to myself after the surgery and was constantly checked on for observations. All the staff in the ward were exceptionally outstanding especially Amy and Lisa with their support, care and help. This 100% helped me feel more at ease and the help I received throughout my 2 night stay remained completely professional.

I had cleaners in my room every morning, my bed was always made for me and breakfast, lunch and dinner was always brought to me with no issues whatsoever. The ward was completely sanitised, I had no faults whatsoever. I had nurses bringing me in fresh water every now and again, and also to bring in my pain relief. Anytime I pressed my buzzer for assistance the nurses were there in a matter of seconds. I also had dressings on my stomach after the surgery in which a few of the nurses helped change and clean for me - in complete hygienic conditions.

There was a time where I was upset during my stay and was crying for no more than 5-10 minutes. In the space of that time, I had 3 nurses comforting me when they had walked past my room. Which was lovely and I didn’t feel like I was being ‘crowded’ or a nuisance to them.

I cannot begin to explain how thankful I am for all nurses, doctors, surgeons, consultants, anaesthetists, medical students and all other staff  involved in my journey. They are the real life day-to-day heroes.

A massive and special thanks to Amy and Lisa (hoping I’ve remembered names correctly!) for all their help in ward 13. You have been outstanding!

I’ll forever be grateful for all of your support and help in this ward. Massive thanks to the full team involved x

Thank you so much for taking the time to complete a care opinion about your experience. I will pass on your comments to our staff in ward 13, especially to Amy and Lisa. It means so much to the staff to receive positive feedback. I hope you are recovering well and thank you again for your kind words.
