"Outstanding Support"

About: Adult Mental Health Services - Community (County) / IPS Future's Positive

(as a service user),

I literally despaired at a lot of the service I had over the years.  Too many changes in my care, people leaving and not being able to get any good relationship with anyone meant I was a problem to the mental health teams,

I have tried to end my life many times as some days I just could not make sense of any future for me.  I am in a horrid workplace and it was suggested to me that I have an Employment Specialist.  My attitude to that was skeptical based on my previous experience.

Then I met Debbie at Manor Road, she got a barrage of abuse from me as my frustrations spilled over, I was shocked when she remained very calm and did not try and make up excuses as to why my care had been bad, she just listened.  Then Debbie explained that if I would let her she hoped to support me within my workplace and that she would work with me as long as I needed.  The 'as long as I needed' I was dubious about, after all in mental health services if I had a clinician for 6 months I was doing well.

But I have now been working with her for a few months, and she is magnificent.  My workplace have not been cooperating, but Debbie is very stubborn at making herself heard with them, and they had no choice but to take notice.  Indeed with Debbie everyone should take notice, she knows her stuff and is a natural problem solver.

I have now got to the point where I do not want to stay in my current job as Debbie has highlighted my skills and increased my confidence, so now we are job hunting.  My suicide tendencies are still there but less frequent, but with Debbie's support I am starting to believe I might have a future.

Debbie keeps me very focussed on future plans for jobs that suit me, its great she never pressures me and on our appointments she makes me feel valuable like I have something to give and I have never felt that way in my whole life.

I am just praying she never leaves or gets a better job as I know with her abilities she definitely could.  She is now supporting me with various external and legal services to get the best outcome for me for my other job so I can move on from that period of my life.

Debbie I hope you read this and realise just how special you are.
