"Gynecologist"

About: Western Isles Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went for a gynecology appointment as I started to bleed after being on HRT for about a year and a half. The gynecologist who's demeanor and attitude I found horrendous, sitting slumped in their chair and shrugging their shoulders when I told them how I was feeling and how it was affecting my Fibromyalgia symptoms.

Stating that my granny never had HRT and she survived so basically get on with it, also I would be told in England to stop taking it, which I think is rubbish.

They suggested a biopsy just to be sure all was ok. The nurse who was in with us could see I was feeling some discomfort after a short time and asked if they were nearly finished, for them to say that they were nearly. Never said anything about pain relief or after care just that results would take a few weeks and that they would contact my doctor with possibly a change of prescription of my HRT.

I found the whole experience quite distressing and don't feel they should be in that job with vulnerable women. It's a very difficult time for women to be going through and we need a sympathetic ear not an arrogant practitioner

Very unhappy with my treatment.

Dear Daisy Mac

Thank you very much for contacting NHS Western Isles to tell us about your recent experience.

I have contacted the Team and your Gynaecologist is sorry to hear of your experience and to learn of your post and is concerned that you may have misconstrued some of the discussion in the course of your consultation. It is unfortunate that you found the endometrial biopsy to be uncomfortable, The biopsy can be variable in experience and can be unpredictable. Your experience was not made clear at the time of the examination.

We would encourage that you contact the service at the Western Isles Hospital, so that a further appointment to re discuss matters might be arranged.

Once again thankyou for taking the time to tell us of your experience we welcome feedback from all our patients and I hope you have now fully recovered from the procedure.

sincerely
