"Adhd diagnosis"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran University Hospital Ayr / General Psychiatry (Mental Health)

(as the patient),

I went to my GP as finally after learning how ADHD affected adults I could relate to all the symptoms and could finally answer and stop asking myself “why am I like this?”.

I’ve struggled all my life with my feelings, navigating life was more difficult for me. How I couldn’t emotionally regulate myself, the chaos I live in, the trying to explain why I am always late for things and can’t keep up. It’s dented so much of my self esteem.

My GP took me seriously and I felt listened to and she wanted to help me! After filling out several forms from the Scottish coalition for ADHD site, they were evaluated by my GP and I was referred for a psychiatrist appointment. This appointment came a few months later and it changed my life for the better - as I was diagnosed and started on medication that has been absolutely life changing for me!

I was afterwards also diagnosed with PMDD, an extreme form of PMS and treated for this. All of a sudden, everything was getting better for me.

Update posted by asteropekc73 (the patient)

The GP was Dr.Watts at Tanyard Medical Practice, Cumnock.

Dr Watt went above and beyond for me finding some others things out and advocating for me. Discussing things further and trusting me with my sought diagnoses.

Her care has genuinely improved my life. No exaggeration at all.

Thank you Dr Watt!
