About: Coatbridge Locality Support Service / Community mental health team outreach Mental Health Services / Adult Mental Health Services

(as a service user),

My psychiatric consultant is leaving Cumbernauld Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) soon and I am being moved to a different locality. In the meantime I have asked to attend the art group at Cumbernauld CMHT so that I have at least got some support until the transfer goes through.

I have been told by a member of staff that this would require additional staffing and therefore said I'm not allowed to attend. This group has five patients that attend. Last group there were only four patients who turned up for the group. I have raised my complaint with patient affairs and they will not get involved.

I have contacted my psychiatric consultant's secretary for an update on when my transfer will be complete and whether I can attend groups in the meantime.  At present I have had no response.

I feel that Cumbernauld CMHT are effectively blocking me from receiving mental health support. Four weeks ago two members of the public stopped me from committing suicide and I have been stuck in bed as a result of my deteriorating mental health.

Please can someone help. I feel isolated and suicidal

Dear unhappy,

I am really sorry to hear how you are feeling right now and the challenges you are experiencing in accessing additional support. Unfortunately, there are minimal spaces available for the art group due to clinical demand and staff availability.

I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that the community mental health team is making every effort to ensure your transition between services is streamlined and the issues you are experiencing will hopefully be resolved.

In the meantime, I would like to wish you well and hope you begin to feel better soon.

Best Wishes

Evelyn
