"I feel very very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay here"

Was feeling very tearful, vulnerable and afraid when I arrived at Dame Carol detox service. Was also feeling unwell.  Very reassured by staff when I was inducted but spent first day in bed feeling unwell and a bit scared.

The staff reassured me and were respectful and non judgemental.  Decided next day I needed to make the most of all the services available and throw myself into my recovery.  By this time I had total trust in the staff and actually the other residents who all made me feel at ease and secure. 

The medical treatment I received is second to none and I felt I could ask at any time if I felt unwell or vulnerable.  The support staff were also always available and although serious in some ways I have not laughed so much for such a long time.  This is down to the trust and friendship that I felt I received.  Staff often sat and just chatted to see how I was.  Warren not only looks after us in terms of practical things but is also brilliant at listening, meditation and discussing our whole being.  Kerry is hilarious.  She takes serious groups but manages to turn them into fun as well.  Both her and Warren have really good listening skills.   I had  bad night one night but it was dealt with quickly and in  a dignified way.

All of he nurses were great and Alan even put magnets in my ears to help me relax and sleep.  Dr Gale is so thorough and picked up on all aspects of of health.  The chef and food is delicious.  The rooms are cosy and adequate and I always slept well. 

The only downside is the lack of garden space or exercise facility.   There is also no lift and the stairs are quite steep which makes luggage difficult and hard for people with mobility issues.  There is one disabled room but a lift would make things easier.  The day is structured with groups, visitors etc. but there is still time to relax etc.

I feel very very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay here and I am leaving feeling confident and ready to start my new life.
