"Disabled parking"

About: Bellfield Centre

(as a service user),

I was trying to get a disabled space outside the Bellfield/Livilands Resource Centre but could not park as none were available so had to go home. It's not because I am lazy and want close to the building, it's because I am disabled and need the extra width to be able to get in and out of the car with my aids, which isn't possible in a normal space.

Plus, I do have a blue badge. My helper walked round the spaces and there is about 10 spaces ,7 of which didn't have a badge.

I have wrote a letter of complaint before about this as I have observed people who are staff as they are in uniform or are wearing ID, but got no reply - so please do something.

Dear wheelchairjazzer

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your experience of parking at the Bellfield Centre.

I am so sorry to read of the difficulties you are experiencing whilst trying to park your car when attending for an appointment. I know it can be extremely frustrating and stressful when you arrive at the hospital with plenty of time and then you are faced with trying to find a space to park, particularly a disabled space, and you worry about being late.

We are very aware of the difficulties our patients are experiencing at busy times of the day when parking their cars, particularly for disabled users. I do understand that due to inappropriate parking and behaviour by other users it causes difficulties.

A review of parking is currently being undertaken and work continues with our Facilities Management Service Provider who is taking steps to monitor inappropriate parking, parking out with designated parking bays, in short stay areas and in accessible spaces.

I hope this provides some reassurance that we are actively trying to improve the parking situation and I can only apologise for your experience.

If I can be of any further help please contact me on 01324 566162 or by email caroline.logan@nhs.scot.

Caroline

Thank you for your response and I am glad to hear some improvements are being made.

As a regular attender it is clear staff use the spaces, so how is this being monitored?
