"Disappointed in the treatment we received"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

(as a friend),

I am a seafarer and was visiting Cowes for the night onboard the vessel I work on. My colleague had been suffering with dental/jaw pain for several days, we had called NHS111 in the morning and been advised to see a dentist within 12 hrs, and they'd call back. 5hrs later we called again as her face had started to swell and the pain worsening, again advised they would call back and we'd been bumped up priority list. We had called around all the dentistry departments in the area and were shut down or turned away.

By dinner she was still clearly suffering so the decision was made to visit A&E. The nurse at reception was lovely and tried to understand the situation, shortly booking us in to urgent care. We walk around to the department to speak to them, and this is where the problem occurred.

The 2 nurses on the desk were completely disrespectful, didn't care to try and understand the situation that we worked on a boat and were going to sea the following morning and we had no other option. They interrupted my colleague whenever she spoke to explain the situation, and informed us there was nothing they could do and that we had to go to a supermarket and buy ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine. This was at 19:30, all pharmacies are closed and no supermarkets open. I'm thoroughly disappointed in the treatment we received at the urgent care department.
