During the recent birth of my baby daughter by elective c section I felt safe, cared for and held by the staff caring for me.
Delivery by planned c section had felt like a bit of a curve ball due to previously having had 2 straightforward deliveries in the birthing suite. I was therefore disappointed to realise my baby was breech. However, throughout I was supported to still feel I had choices around my birth experience.
On the day prior to going to theatre it was evident that there was a great deal of acuity on the ward that day, but that never impacted on the care I received. Staff really took the time to sit with us, explaining what to expect at all stages and giving the opportunity to ask questions whilst involving my partner.
The experience of theatre in itself felt very calm and controlled. Staff were extremely warm and enthusiastic throughout and it really felt that they were walking alongside us. I would like to highlight in particular a few names who made a big difference (Jennifer, Midwife; Dr Nirmala, Consultant Obstetrician; Dr Simpson, Consultant Anaesthetist; and Norma, Research Midwife).
