"Family sitting room is hard to keep clean and tidy"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh)

(as a service user),

Whilst it is incredible that there is a family sitting room allowing families to be together especially with siblings not allowed on the wards, the state of the sitting room is an actual disgrace.

I was in Wednesday night making my tea. There were dirty mugs just left lying around and general messiness. I gave it a bit of a tidy whilst I waited for the kettle to boil.

When I was in yesterday it was worse. Every single bit of crockery was dirty and had left over contents inside. I wasn’t able to tidy/clean as was rushing back for my baby. It was absolutely horrible and an embarrassment for any new parents coming to the hospital.

This morning when I got up there was again dirty dishes, rubbish and general mess just lying around. I again tidied and put rubbish away. Dirty dishes are hard as there isn’t really anywhere to clean other than the toilet sink. We’ve stayed and used this area before and it’s really handy and nice to go to when it’s kept clean and tidy!

It may benefit from a dishwasher or proper sink that people can wash dishes in and fill the kettle up. It is such a shame that there’s so many families abusing this space for everyone.

Dear funnyyz65,

I would first of all like to thank you for raising the issue of our family sitting room. We are currently reviewing the upkeep of this area, as we understand how valuable this space is to the many families who use it. We are aware of the lack of facilities to wash crockery within this space and are currently looking at what options we have to rectify.

I hope this eases your frustration and we will do our best to make this space more pleasing.

Thank you once again,

Louise
