I was induced with my second child at RAH last year. Initially it was fine, the first midwife explained what was going to happen and started the process. Things progressed fairly slowly, which again I expected.
However, it got to the point where I had been having contractions for over 24 hours with just paracetamol, despite asking numerous times for other options. I found being checked incredibly painful and nearly passed out after one midwife insisted on checking me every time they came into the room - after this particularly traumatic experience they just looked at me and asked why is it so bad for me. As if I was supposed to know the answer.
I was told at about lunch time on the Monday (I went in on the Sunday night where the process was started straight away) that I was next in line for the labour ward, so my husband decided not to go out to get food or anything so that he didn’t miss anything. However, we weren’t sent down till 11 pm that night, and that was after crying and asking midwives repeatedly what was happening and being told nothing.
Thankfully, the night shift midwife was great and helped speed up the process for me to go down to the labour ward. After that the labour midwife was brilliant and they saved the whole experience for myself and my husband. However, I am now pregnant again and honestly I am extremely nervous about giving birth again at this hospital. I totally understand things can be out of the control of the midwives, but it’s embarrassing to be in that much pain trying to convince people to help you and feeling totally ignored.
"Poor induction experience"
