About: Brooksby Day Hospital / Occupational Therapy North Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership / Community Nursing North Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership / Occupational therapy North Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership / Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

I had had a number of falls at least six in the previous year! Usually there was no explanation for this.

Dianna (nurse): My initial chat with Dianna put me very much at ease. She genuinely wanted to help me and observed me walking, sitting, etc. I had been told by a private physio that my balance was poor & she spoke about that and about balance therapy, keeping fit and preventing falls. She said she would refer me to KA Leisure for classes. A few months later I started the invigor8 class. I found the class quite basic but felt it helped me quite a bit & gave me strategies to prevent falls, keep safe at home and outside. Common sense advice that you forget as my age.

Paulene (OT): Phoned and visited me at home. She seemed to think that I was coping OK on a daily basis. She suggested a community alarm & bath hand rail, but said at the moment I was coping alright without aids. She followed up the community alarm and I now have one.

Zoe (physio): The invigor8 classes have improved my fitness and balance quite a bit. Zoe did not think I needed any aids at present. I spoke quite positively about my ability to do most things for my self, but unfortunately I had a very bad fall a few days later & I have been quite incapacitated since then. Bruising to knees & chest & side (ribs). Went to WK surgery about 10 days after fall and they gave me paracetamols & gel to put on bruised area.

NB I have also attended a pre-diabetic ( 2 mornings) info session. Thank you to all who have helped me.

Dear scrgf56

Thank you so much for your communication. We will pass on your comments to the staff. They will be delighted you have sent this.

To keep people as mobile and independent as able there will always be a risk of falls. Using aids too soon can cause a more rapid decline in a persons function. Joanna Plaine, Physiotherapy, Health and Therapy Team and I will review your case and any communication / follow up needs that may be required.

Kind regards.

Dean

Dear scrgf56

Following on from the response posted on behalf of myself above. Joanna and I have caught up and we are both hoping you are managing following your fall. We along with the team are thrilled the team were able to provide such support but concerned about your further fall.

We'd like to reassure you that if you feel you have any further needs that we can help with within the Health and Therapy Team, or if you would like to call to discuss, please contact the Brooksby HaTT Office on 01475 687 502.

Kind Regards
