"Compassionate care after my miscarriage"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gynaecology (Ward 49)

(as a service user),

I recently experienced a miscarriage and I wanted to share with the team who looked after me that I appreciated their care and compassion.

I had to undergo a MVA procedure in gynaecology day ward at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The most difficult day of my life so far was made bearable by the excellent nursing and medical care I received.

At one point I was unable to continue and my preferences were respected. After a moment to evaluate how it had gone so far, my options were presented clearly and compassionately. I was able to choose to complete the MVA with some superb emotional support from the team.

The follow up care also made a difference to me. I am particularly thankful to Dr Watson. I felt safe in her expertise and knowledge as she explained the clinical decision making, listened to my concerns and answered my questions. She really gave me a sense of closure at my final appointment.

There is something immensely powerful about having someone acknowledge your pain and distress, not shying away, dismissing or minimising it. More than one member of the team did this, and it made the world of difference to how I feel now, after weeks of anxiety and emotional distress.

I would thank each staff member from that day individually but I cannot recall their names. Thank you all very much.

Dear Malouchi91

I am so sorry for your loss.

Thanks so much for finding time to share your feedback at this difficult time.

The QEUH staff will be pleased to know that you felt your preferences were respected, that the staff were compassionate and also offered emotional support.

I will pass this on to Dr Watson and the team.

This website has good, supportive information if you wish some resources and further support:

I wish you and your partner a gentle recovery.

Kind regards,

Nikki Harvey
