We had a very traumatising experience with the birth of our child. We were extremally stressed about the idea of having to go back into hospital. But the staff in Elgin maternity ward are exceptional.
We had issues with breastfeeding as far as we could tell we were using the right technique but not enough milk was being produced and baby was going hungry and frustrated. We were very frustrated and stressed as when we were in Aberdeen they were always too busy to help make sure we were using the right technique or answer a few questions we had so we felt that we were doing something wrong but we just did not know. it turned out mum wasn't producing much milk and this can be triggered by stress and also C section can also have an impact. our midwife referred us to the breastfeeding clinic.
We had an appointment but newborns always decide when you will go to things and we were almost an hour late. we called in advance and told us not to worry to come in when we could. i was expecting to have to cancel but they were very kind and patient and told us not to worry about it and still saw us even though another couple were coming in soon. Somehow she juggled between the two of us and did it with a smile on her face.
She took the time and went through techniques, and routine and answered lots of questions about diet and equipment and a huge list of stuff to help with our breastfeeding success. we've gone from producing less than 10ml (after breastfeed) to around 30ml. it's early days but that is a big jump and gives us confidence that our baby will get more breastmilk to really give her a boost as she grows.
I have no doubt in my mind about how useful the clinic is and how helpful it has been. If they had provided this information shortly after birth when we were in Aberdeen we would might have avoided having to return to hospital with our baby as an inpatient.
We've also had several follow up calls but we have been a bit busy. The attention to care is fantastic
Thank you
