"My Mother was admitted with a query stroke"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Acute Receiving Unit (Units 1-5)

(as a relative),

She was admitted to the acute receiving unit where she had a bed and was well looked after. Approx 12 hours into her stay she was moved to ward 6A were she was told there was a bed for her. When my mother arrived to the ward nursing staff advised they did not have a bed for her and she spent 6 hours sitting on a plastic chair firstly at the nursing station and then in a store room.

When requiring to use the toilet she was made to leave the ward and use a public toilet. The nursing and medical staff were very apologetic and cared for my Mother the best they could despite their ward being full. I found this completely unacceptable to have a sick patient left sitting on a chair , it is at the very least undignified. It also adds further pressure to what appeared to be an over worked nursing team. Sick patients being left in a corridor is not the way to run a hospital , nor does it follow the NHS core values. Hospital management should review their procedures.

Dear lionfx76

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and I am very sorry to hear of your mother's experience.

Would it be possible for me to ask you please to provide your mother's details to allow me to review this further.

My email address is linda.caldwell@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Many thanks

Linda
