"Insufficient information given pre-op"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / General Surgery

(as a relative),

My dad is in his 70s and went for pre-op checks at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. When he asked what the risks of the surgery were, he was told that everything carries a risk. I feel this was a poor answer to a serious question and should have been answered more fully. I don't think he was given sufficient information to give his informed consent.

HI can I please offer sincere apologies for your experience in RIE. I have shared this with the surgical team. Please contact the pre operative team if there are remaining questions your Dad needs answering as this is not what we would expect from our services and we would want to be sure your Dad is as prepared as possible to make good decisions about his care and treatment plan.

Once again apologies for your experience.

Michelle
