"Crashing from on high"

About: Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Emergency Dental Treatment Centre Level 1 NHS 24 / Scottish Emergency Dental Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was excited after finishing five performances on stage. We were cycling home together at 10.15pm and he was dancing and singing as he cycled. Then he hit a speed bump and swerved. I heard the scream and the thump as he landed, followed by his dad landing on top of him.

We picked him up and examined the damage. A broken front tooth, a big hole in his lip, bumps and bruises. The NHS24 call handler was kind and efficent. The NHS Dental Nurse called back after 10 minutes and was reassuring and thorough. The Dental booking hub called quickly and gave us clear arrangements for 12 hours later.

Glasgow Dental hospital was fantastic, clean, friendly, and fast. The dentist assessed his mouth, applied a temporary fillings, gave advice about the next few days. My son was cared for and on his way home after just 30 minutes.

I am so grateful for the care we have recieved, Thank you.

Dear Cycling Mum

Oh my - what a story! Thank you so much for sharing. What a rollercoaster for the reader, so goodness knows how this was for you, for his dad and especially your son! To go from being in such high spirits to crashing to the ground is quite something. I can only imagine what a fright you all must have got. I'm so pleased though the outcome was good and a temporary filling was put in place. I hope your son is doing well and you have all recovered from such an ordeal.

It's kind of you to take the time to thank the staff involved in caring for your son. I'm pleased, at what was no doubt a worrying time, our staff here at NHS 24 were able to assist by making a referral for your son to be seen face to face for dental treatment. The staff at Glasgow Dental Hospital sound fantastic too by providing excellent care, so well done to them.

I'd love to be able to share your story with the staff here at NHS 24 who managed your call. With some additional detail, I could do this. Therefore, when you can, it would be great to hear further from you. You can contact me on 07814 299944 or email Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again and best wishes to you all. I hope your son has a flourishing career on stage.

Shona
