"Treated with warmth, respect and offered the best care"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / GP Out-of-Hours Emergency Service NHS 24

(as a relative),

My Mother-in-Law suffered sever sickness and abdominal pain on Saturday afternoon, following a colonoscopy the day before. I knew this was a concern and called NHS24 for advice.

The call taker was, as expected, very thorough but maintained a caring and friendly tone throughout the process. We quickly were able to speak to a Nurse, who again was kind, professional and reassured us. Within 40 minutes, there was a knock at the door and an Out of Hours GP greeted us. I knew we had done the right thing by calling when they arrived. Thankfully, after an examination and checking her vitals, the GP wasn’t concerned and suspected it was a reaction to the colonoscopy. He reassured my Mother-in-Law and gave her an anti-sickness injection, which gave her relief almost immediately, she was able to drink water and rest after a long day. Once again he treated her with warmth, respect and offered the best care.

I cannot thank NHS24 and the OOH team at Stobhill enough for their prompt and thorough response. My MIL was concerned she was making a fuss and downplayed her symptoms, which was down to her fear she would need to travel to A&E and potentially wait a long time. The OOH service worked exactly how it’s intended to and I am thoroughly impressed by the care she received.

Thank you.

Dear JadeC

Thanks for getting in touch via Care Opinion. I'm sorry to learn your mother in law was unwell following a Colonoscopy. I'm pleased to see the anti-sickness injection helped and I hope she is recovering well. It sounds like quite a concerning time for you all.

Your feedback regarding the care provided to your mother in law is very much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to share this. From what you have described, your mother in law's care was seamless and it is an exemplary example of staff working together to ensure patients (and their families) receive the best possible reassurance and care. Here at NHS 24, stories such as yours are fantastic for our staff to see. It would be great to be able to share your feedback directly with the staff who managed the call to 111 on behalf of your mother in law. You can contact me on 07814 299944 or email Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again and best wishes.

Shona
