"Appalling service from night shift staff"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Maternity care (Ward 31)

(as the patient),

Shocking appalling service from Nightshift staff for Induction.

I sat down on a ward of 4 already suffering from bad anxiety and worried about the whole induction procedure, I then sat waiting for the next 90 minutes to see a qualified midwife, when they finally came they were far from nice, one of the most patronising staff members I've ever come across. Growled and barked a few orders at me and told my spouse he would have to leave prompt even tho I had bad anxiety and was in floods of tears at this point.

Considering there was numerous other dads in the ward and roaming around the corridors with their spouses, I thought this was completely unnecessary.

I was also following induction guidelines and advice from my midwife at home that my birthing partner will be there throughout.

I then rang the emergency buzzer as instructed by midwife if the baby's heart rate drops below 100, only to be left for a full 8 mins timed by my husbands stopwatch, nobody was forthcoming whatsoever.

This unbelievable shocking service wasn't making me feel comfortable or at ease at all.

After asking for a single room because of the distance travelled from home, time of night it was, and in my current state of mental health, I was completely refused rudely by a junior member of staff who then began to instil fear in me by saying numerous things about me and my anxiety and also my baby and how it could come to harm if we were to leave and not have the induction. This made me feel so uncomfortable and almost like a prisoner on the ward.

This further reduced me to more tears and it was then I decided that I wasn't going to have my baby on this ward as it was a completely horrible toxic environment to be in.

I walked out and never looked back, my baby boy was born naturally safe and well in our local hospital less than 36 hours later and we were home soon after.

The communication with patients was terrible - running away and hiding instead of providing the proper service that is required of them. We experienced a farcical service,  served with a growl.

Wouldn't recommend this to anyone, most horrible experience ever.
