"Staff who go above and beyond"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a parent/guardian),

My son experienced a mid shaft fractured femur recently. Unfortunately, assistance from NIAS was not readily available at the time of the injury so we arrived at Craigavon Area Hospital Emergency Department with a 12-year-old in overwhelming pain.

The staff at the emergency department were exceptional - from the NIAS paramedics who assisted on his removal from our car (sorry I didn’t catch their names), nurses Cynthia, Ciara and Katie, Dr Rachel and radiographers Linzi and Aoife.

Ciara, Rachel and Katie worked quickly to ensure my son was given pain relief and quick action was take to manage his injury. The team were very effective and reassured my son throughout. We can’t thank you enough for your help and care.

We were then transferred to Royal Hospital for Sick Children by NIAS crew Damien and Andrew. They ensured my son was comfortable on his journey and that we were safely handed over to another team. Thank you!

Thank you to everyone! We should never take our NHS for granted, it is a wonderful service and the staff who go above and beyond are worth their weigh in gold!

Good afternoon silverwarerw68,

I am grateful to you for taking the time to share your experiences of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. From the outset, I would like to apologise to you and your family. Please be assured that we are working closely with the Department of Health and the Strategic Planning and Performance Group to increase our available resources. We are also working with the local EDs to try to ensure that our patients can be handed over to hospital clinical teams as quickly as possible so that ambulance are able to respond to further emergencies.

It was however encouraging to learn about the care and support provided by the paramedics at the emergency department and during the transfer to Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

I hope your son is recovering well.

Best wishes,

Neil

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in CAH ED.

I am glad to hear that you had an exceptional experience with your son during his time in ED. It was lovely of you to mention personally all the staff involved in the care of your son. In particular I was delighted that the radiographers Linzi and Aoife showed your son compassion and caring during his time in x-ray and that this meant he had an exceptional experience with us.

As Linzi and Aoife's line manager I will be sure to pass on your kind words to them. I know this will mean a lot to the radiographers especially in the current climate.

Again thank you for your kind words and taking the time to share your experience and I hope your son makes a speedy recovery.

Kind regards

Helena
