"Right side total hip replacement. Golden Jubilee National Hospital Clydebank."

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I attended the Golden Jubilee National Hospital for a right total hip replacement. On the build up to my surgery I attended a number of appointments ensuring I was fully prepared and aware of the surgery. Having previously had a left hip replacement I had experience of what to expect. However, this procedure was going to be performed with the assistance of the Mako robot. This filled me with some fears and anxiety.

My fears soon disappeared as I was given clear concise answers and information about the use of the robot. Throughout my experience at the Jubilee I have nothing but praise, gratitude and total respect for the tremendous treatment I received.

I found all staff to be attentive, polite and and very respectful throughout. All the teams from the cleaners, ward assistants, nurses, consultants, physiotherapists etc were first class and a credit to NHS Scotland.

I am two weeks post op and cannot believe the progress I have made. I was told that by using the robot the procedure would be more accurate, less evasive and would aid a quicker recovery. I have got to say that this is certainly the case so far. The advanced recovery program the hospital facilitates has had a real positive impact on my experience and recovery.

This hospital has a hotel as part of the complex and this allowed my wife to stay in the area to assist me accordingly.

I am extremely grateful to NHS Tayside for referring me to the Jubilee Hospital even though it meant a 160 mile round trip to attend. Anyone having reservations about attending the Golden Jubilee National Hospital please don’t. Yes you may have to travel out with your regional area but it is well worth it. The service and support I have received has been very much appreciated and I now look forward to getting back to some normality hopefully pain free and able to enjoy life better after my surgery.
