"Exceptionally grateful"

I have had ongoing gallbladder issues since the start of the year. I spent a week in Altnagelvin in February 2023.

However last Friday I had a relapse. Initially I contacted the phone first service and was advised to go straight to A&E with my symptoms. I promptly received blood tests, ECG etc.

I was directed to the Ambulatory Care Unit of Altnagelvin Hospital, (Ward 2- Sister Sara ) where I received exceptional care from the nurses and doctors; particularly, Sister Sara, Dr. Sam, nurses Stacey, Jade and Fiona.

Sara’s, dedication to nursing is truly commendable! Sara is the epitome of a great nurse.  Sara displays compassion, integrity and represents a very high standard. I am grateful for her and how she runs her ward so professionally. It radiates to the other members.

Mr Alnaimat and his team were also second to none, made sure to call with me every day, a real person centred approach to my situation and quickly changed antibiotics to help me fight. He reassured me of my operation date ‘window’ and filled me with confidence.

The medical and support staff in Ward 2 - Ambulatory Care Unit were there for me day and night when I was at my lowest and most at pain helping me to get through. The professional, friendly and supportive way they carried out their duties helped me greatly and was a credit to them.

In the radiography department I had went for an ultrasound (I unfortunately did not catch both names of the male staff) they provided clear explanations and reassurance throughout the procedure.

I am returning next week for a check up to ACU and then shortly after to have my gallbladder removed.

I honestly couldn’t be more thankful for every member of the team. I was anxious to begin with as I didn’t have this experience in February; but every single person in the ACU unit at Altnagelvin Hospital were so kind and professional.

I am honestly so impressed and grateful with the level of care I received this week.
