"My visit to dental hospital"

About: Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Dental

(as the patient),

Hi, this is wee bit mental for a review, but the world is going mental anyway so here goes. I do I solemnly swear…… lol am kidding. I was at Glasgow dental hospital today for what I thought was just to get results from an x-ray I had done, but it turned into a full scale biopsy on a troublesome concerning lump on my bottom gum. Forgive me but I’ve forgotten the quite magnificent dentist who was attending to me. I think it was Julie.

I was otherwise focused on the professionalism and amazing care she was giving me.  Always putting me at ease. And always telling me I'm doing great and well done. Which for me keeps my mind off the big blooming jags and chunk of gum she needs for this biopsy. It was a surprise I was getting a biopsy today but if it was the same dentist and I hope I'm correct with her name, Julie id have a biopsy every day of the week. And she had the presence of mind to give Nicola a wee shout as I take it she’s the senior. And then she also said - your doing brilliant well done. And that reassurance helps me so much. So I wish to thank (and I pray I have your name correct Julie) in a quite outstanding job. Also her wee assistant was great as well. I was honestly very very impressed. As I’ve had a wee dislike for dentists, but that goes back years ago when the mad dentist actually had a knee on me as they ripped my tooth out 🙈🙈so you can imagine my fear of dentists, but my faith is well and truly restored with the treatment I received today. Thank you very much Julie, Nicola and wee assistant.

Dear Gary547,

I have enjoyed reading your comments posted about you recent visit to Glasgow Dental Hospital.

It can be unsettling when you attend an appointment and a procedure is carried out that was unexpected. Sometimes, this is possible and can avoid patients having to come back for another visit. However, it seems this was a good experience for you in the end. The Oral Surgery team understand that patients can be nervous and a previous poor experience can increase feelings of anxiety. Reassurance and distraction goes such a long way in supporting patients through a challenging time. I hope your fear of Dentists has been somewhat overcome following your visit to Glasgow Dental Hospital.

Julie and Nicola and the wider team will be very happy to read your post, thank you very much for taking time for telling us about your visit.

Kindest, regards

Fiona
