Hi I am sorry to say we have not had a good experience. My mum is very disabled and cannot speak. She was admitted to ward 8a over two weeks ago with chest issues. She was treated with oxygen and antibiotics and they confirmed she had covid. She was kept in isolation for 10 days and nursing staff said would not be discharged until covid free. After 10 days we were told now out of isolation and no need for protective mask etc.
On Wednesday received phone call that the bed manager had decided she should be moved to ward 55 in langlands ward. Low and behold the room she was admitted to a six bedded room had covid patients . We were never once contacted by any staff over the three days she was there to ask any relevant questions on her care. This is crucial as my mum can’t speak. On visiting this afternoon a relative was just been told at that mum is being sent home. No phone call. No chance to put heating on. No food in fridge. Nothing.
My mum requires a care package. Carer will be arriving hopefully at 8pm tonight. But current waiting time for patient transport is in excess of 4/5 hours. What’s going on? How is this fair. Where is the care and empathy for the patient an 83 year old stroke patient who cannot speak. Surely better can be done on discharge?
Oh to top it all off nurses just told us she is now positive again no surprise as put in a covid ward. So what’s changed? Before we were told will not be discharged home very vulnerable while still positive. What on earth is going on? I don’t know as no one has even bothered to phone me as next of kin. Must do better. Can do better.
"Must do better. Can do better."
