My daughter has recently had reconstructive knee surgery at Victoria hospital Kirkcaldy, one month ago.
So far this has been a mostly positive experience. She had a pre surgery appointment with Jacqueline who was lovely, explaining things very well. She took forward my daughters questions and concerns to Mr. Walmsley and got back to her very quickly with the information she needed prior to her operation.
The only negative part was arriving at the Orthopeadic National treatment centre on the morning of the operation the signage advised that the doors would open automatically at 7am. We waited until then, the doors remained closed and no one answered the buzzer despite being able to see staff inside the building. Another 2 patients had the same issue. We went to different parts of the hospital panicking that we were not at the correct place as we were concerned about arriving late. Another reception called over to confirm that was where we should be so we walked back arriving 7.20am ,doors still closed opened eventually before 7.30 but a very stressful start for my daughter pre op.
Once inside the staff were all professional and friendly putting my daughter at ease.
Tracey took my daughter down to theatre. Her people skills were fantastic, talking with her taking her mind off her op and really putting her at ease explaining how things worked.
The operation was successfully and Tracey ( operating dept support worker) popped into the ward a lot to check up on her progress. She was kind, friendly and genuinely interested in people.
A big thanks to everyone involved in my daughters care, people make the difference and all the staff were doing a grand job.
