"Mixed feelings about my experience"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as a service user),

In my experience, the good staff were great and the bad staff were awful.

To the midwives that got me through my section, thank you so much. You went above and beyond and I’m so glad you tried to make my birth story the best it could be - even when it didn’t go to plan. You were both kind and supportive to myself and my husband and we really appreciate it.

After I got moved to the labour ward, I experienced care that was the polar opposite. I was left crying and in need of assistance that night. When the assistance came, it was with an attitude and lack of understanding. I lost 1/4 of my blood during my emergency Caesarian section and  needed supportive staff to get me through the night, but sadly it wasn’t available. The rest of the staff on the day shifts and following night shifts were excellent so it’s a shame that my experience was tainted on the first night.

Dear NewMammy

Thank you for sharing your recent experience of Maternity Services in Wishaw. I will pass on your kind words to the staff who supported you during your Caesarean Section

I am really sorry to learn of your experience in the postnatal ward. Its unacceptable that any patient is left crying and unsupported following emergency surgery. I am really disappointed to read this and apologise that your care fell below the standard I would expect. I will share this with the Senior Charge Midwife to ensure we learn from this to prevent it occurring again.

If you would like to discuss your care in further detail please do not hesitate to contact me. Or alternatively to submit a formal complaint please contact Wishaw Patient Affairs team.

I hope you are starting to recover from your emergency CS and managing to rest.

Warmest Wishes

Cheryl
