"Excellent Service"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Ward 7

(as a friend),

My friend was in the South West Acute Hospital. Their dementia and behaviours were up and down . In periods of distress, they would always seek out the dementia workers or the (orange drs) Brendan and Clare.  These workers are unsung heroes that are always seem to be very busy yet keep the calmness on the ward for all.

They make families feel very welcome and always greet people with a big smile. I personally could not have managed without them, the rest of ward 7 staff are excellent too and makes me have great faith in the hospital system, but these two for me are absolute stars!!

My friend has since been discharged, with a very positive experience of hospital. Well done everyone and thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

Dear Lyneb47

My name is Nicola Hayes and I manage the Dementia Companion Service.

Thank you for taking the time to post this story on behalf of a friend.

We are grateful for your feedback story with regards to your friend's care whilst in Ward 7, South West Acute Hospital and I am so glad to hear that the care your friend received was 'excellent'.

I am pleased to hear that the role of the Dementia Companion had a positive impact on your friend during their stay in an acute hospital and that they were able to alleviate some of the distress experienced by your friend. The colour orange really does work!!

You singled out Clare and Brendan and it gives me great personal and professional gratification to read how they have carried out their duties to a high standard, which resulted in a great experience for your friend and an overall great experience of being in hospital.

The Dementia Companions are 'unsung heroes', as they are so committed to caring for people living with dementia and try to make each day as good as what they can for their patients.

I will share your story with my 'stars' - Clare and Brendan and feedback their response to your story.

Finally, I hope this response finds your friend well within their health and please be assured that your feedback is very welcome to ensure safe, effective, compassionate and well led care is delivered.

Best Wishes

Nicola
