"Poor maintenance"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Dermatology

(as a relative),

I recently took my wife to the hospital for an appointment in the Dermatology department in the Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley, accompanied by our daughter. My wife and I are in our 80s, and my wife walks with an aid.

The lift to the dermatologist department was out of order and has been for over 6 months now, as this is the second time we have attended the hospital for an appointment. Myself and my wife were able (just) to manage the stairs, but I believe the only other way to get up via a lift is to walk further into the hospital.

Is the hospital waiting until someone falls up or down these stairs before maintenance is done on the lift? This department is used by all ages, young ones in prams to older generations in wheelchairs. I think this is a ridiculous amount of time for a lift to be out of order. I hope the next time I come to the hospital in a few months that it is fixed by then.

Dear Robert728,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding the lifts at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this caused during your recent visit with your wife. Unfortunately, the parts to repair the lift needed to be manufactured overseas which is why there was a delay, however I am pleased to report that the repair has now been carried out and the lift is operating as normal.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback with us.

Kind regards,

Lisa Martin,

Patient Experience Public Involvement Manager.
