"Admitted to hospital after a fall"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After a nasty fall I was admitted into the hospital trauma unit where I had X-rays and scans to access the damage to my left leg, where it showed that I had severely damaged my distal femur and knee which would require surgery to fix it securely. I was made very comfortable and the medication I was prescribed made it quite bearable. I had to wait to be transferred from north Devon hospital back to the QMC Nottingham because of other medical problems which took approximately a week but I was given a nerve block into my left leg to make the trip back to Nottingham more bearable.

The only problem we encountered was that my husband had to follow the ambulance to the hospital and was told to park up near the A and E department but a few weeks later we received a parking fine much to our surprise.  We have appealed against it but not yet heard anything, but as we didn’t know where to park or anything not being from the area as we were on holiday.

Dear Tinytrish,

Thank you for taking your time to provide us with your feedback. It is great to hear of your prompt treatment and pain relief and that you managed to return home to Nottingham for your further treatment. I will ensure that your comments are fed back to our Emergency Department and our Trauma Unit here at NDDH.

I have spoken to my colleague in facilities Lisa who would be happy to try and support you with your parking concerns. You can contact Lisa on the following email Lisa.obrien1@nhs.net and include the car registration and date of the incident and she will do her best to help you.

Kind regards

Sophie Grills
ED Governance & Operational Support Manager
