I had experienced great care in my community from my GP but when my situation exceeded what they could help with I got an on the day referral to the surgical assessment unit.
I arrived in the ward just after my GP appointment, I was quickly assessed and then asked to wait while my bloods were tested at the labs. Within 2 hours my blood results were back and I was reviewed by a surgeon. I was given a treatment plan and minor surgery right there and then.
During this procedure I felt quite unwell and it was a daunting situation. However, I was comforted by both the surgeon and the nursing staff who took time to hold my hand, get me water and even fanned my face. The procedure was done in half an hour and I was able to go home. But not before they got me a sugary drink to make sure I was really ok. They gave me advice regarding my wound and how to get this re dressed and even advised they would be happy to help if I have any issues. Telling me to phone them directly with any worries.
They were honestly amazing. All too often we hear of the negativity of our NHS but I was well looked after and it was all done in an afternoon. I’m hoping for a speedy recovery now and I’m so thankful for the amazing care I received. Please pass my thanks to the team on duty, I think the HCSW was named Hazel, the deputy charge nurse and the surgeon. Sorry I can’t remember names.
Many thanks
"A caring and compassionate team"
