"Phlebotomy experience"

About: Downshire Hospital / Downshire Phlebotomy Hub

(as a service user),

I arrived to a phlebotomy appointment at the Downe Hospital, Downpatrick with my elderly father in law for a blood draw.

Geraldine greeted us outside the phlebotomy cabin and I parked up my car. She took his name for the appointment and seeing I had an elderly man with me, she asked me if he could walk well which I told her no, he wasn’t very steady on his feet so she said to stay in the car a wee minute and she’d speak to the nurse, Therese.

They both arrived out to the car and proceeded to take the blood draw whilst in the car. I can’t tell you how appreciative we were and how at ease they made us feel. They were cheerful and so pleasant and had a bit of craic with my father in law which he really enjoyed.

All in all, the appointment was the most positive one we have had in a while, no waiting about and going above and beyond what they needed to do. It really did make a difference to us.
