"Exemplary and professional care"

About: East Lothian Community Hospital NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Western General Hospital / General Surgery Western General Hospital / GP out of hours service (LUCS)

(as a relative),

Very grateful to multiple teams in NHS Lothian for my diabetic husband's care when what we thought was food poisoning turned out to be a bit more exciting.

Because of the life saving advice we received from NHS 24 (husband really unsure whether food poisoning or otherwise as pain seemed to get better for a while overnight - we now guess this is when rupture happened!) we went to out of hours in East Lothian Community hospital at the weekend. Could not have had more kind or compassionate team, who diagnosed quickly, organised ambulance and quiet room to rest, pain relief, and have regular updates on timing (ambulance was delayed).

Exemplary and professional care from ambulance and Western General surgical teams and nursing staff, quickly and professionally sorting out what was described as a 'sticky mess ' ruptured appendix. Continuing outpatient care also excellent, nipping a couple of post op complications in the bud. Big big thank you to all teams involved.

Dear Grateful Patient's Other Half

Thank you for sharing your story. It must have been a very worrying time for you both, not least to say, very painful.

I am glad to read that your husband received the care that he needed.

If you would like me to pass on your thanks to the ambulance crew that attended may I ask that you contact our Patient Experience Team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your name, Care Opinion name, your husband's name and the address and date we attended.

I do hope he is recovering well.

Kindest regards

David

Dear Grateful Patient's Other Half

It sounds as though this has been a bit of rollercoaster of a time for your husband and also for you. I'm so sorry to learn of your husband's ruptured appendix. I hope you are both doing well and are on the road the recovery.

How kind of you to take the time to share your experience and to thank the staff who cared for your husband (and for you). What a shining example of services working together to provide the best possible care and experience. I'm sure my colleagues within NHS Lothian will be delighted to see your kind comments.

Thanks for mentioning our staff here at NHS 24 who you consider provided 'life saving' advice. Stories such as yours are fantastic for us to see as often we are normally involved only at the start of a patient's journey of care and we don't often get to hear the outcome. I would really like to share your story with the staff here at NHS 24 who managed your call to us, therefore when you feel ready, it would be good to hear directly from you with some additional detail. You can contact me on 07814 299944 or email Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I hope to hear from you further. Thanks again and best wishes to you both.

Shona

Dear Grateful Patient's Other Half,

My name is Claire and I work for the Patient Experience Team at NHS Lothian. Firstly let me thank you for sharing your feedback with us regarding what must have been a very difficult time for both you and your husband.

I am so glad to have read that the treatment your husband received from both East Lothian Community Hospital while awaiting his transfer to Western General Hospital, and from the Surgical Team, was so compassionate. It truly is lovely to read that the staff hopefully eased what must have been a very worrying and stressful time for you both.

Please be assured we have shared your feedback with all the teams involved, and they are very grateful to have received this.

I hope your husband continues to recover,

Kind regards,

Claire
