Initially when we were hoping to have our first baby at the RLI, we were sent a letter explaining that if the delivery ward was busy we needed to look at different options (Kendal, Barrow etc), I was really impressed that the hospital was being so proactive, which meant we had looked at alternatives and felt confident that we would not be panicked on D-day. The midwife team who looked after us were friendly, supportive and professional. We were checked throughout by the doctor, and was kept up to date with everything that was going on. As we had a few complications, towards the latter stages of the labour I was examined again and I was given an honest update on our choices. I felt reassured by the support of the team, and decided to go for an emergency C-section after asking if the doctor felt it was the best option in his experience. We were quickly given info on what was happening, pain relief and next steps and in less than an hour our baby had arrived. The surgical team were fantastic, professional but best of all friendly. I felt totally relaxed that I had made the right decision for me, my baby and my husband, and the fact my midwife came with us was fantastic. Following the C-section we went to recovery then onto the ward. The ward was clean, the staff were amazing and the food was lovely. Overall from start to finish I has a positive experience, felt in control and well informed, and enjoyed the experience (well apart from the physical labour bit!!).
"Fantastic Maternity experience"
