My delivery experience at Daisy Hill Hospital went brilliantly. The staff were all fantastic. The midwives during the labour were very attentive, caring, supportive and approachable. They really are suited to their vocation and job. Nothing is too much bother for them – they are worth their weight in gold. There are a couple of staff members that stand out to me. Firstly, during the delivery both Ava and Mairead were incredibly supportive - absolutely amazing. With regards to the aftercare, both Imelda and Siobhan stand out – they have been fantastic.
The care I have received on the Maternity Ward has been great – it has been absolutely first class. Staff explanations have been generally good, however I feel that one doctor could have improved their approach. I had declined a certain treatment for my baby and I felt this doctor was very pushy at trying to make me take it, even when it was an informed decision that I had made. It just felt like they were pushing their personal opinion upon me. They then wrote that I refused the treatment in the notes, however I feel that “declined” would have been a more appropriate choice of words. However, the other doctor who has been round doing checks etc. has been absolutely amazing.
The ward itself has been clean and comfortable. This is my fourth baby here on Daisy Hill’s Maternity Ward and they have all been good experiences. The midwives have all been great and respect your need for privacy at the same time. The bathrooms have all been clean and tidy. The only other thing I think could be improved is that the ward can be very warm at times.
