"Poor quality of food"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)

(as a service user),

I was a a patient in RAH in late June 23

I was there for several weeks the food was so bad I could not eat it. The thing that has made me write this review. Is to hopefully highlight the problem I faced as a complicated diabetic.

I was taken for a MRI scan and return to find no food kept for me. Dr and my husband and a friend were at end of my bed my blood had gone to 3. There was no food,no bread  no sandwiches no meal. That evenings meal was ordered on iPad.  They came to our bed bay but  there was none of what I ordered - why?  I was not the only one who meal order was fluffed, The system don’t work in RAH.

The Nurse in charge  of ward knew nothing of missed meal policy - patients went hungry. It was your catering  director who stated that every patient should have a pleasant dining experience - sadly RAH is falling far short.  When I recovered I requested to see the hospital catering manager and was advised there wasn't one.  The supervisor came up the following day and said they were raising this to management. I am still waiting .

Noted that Glasgow hospitals have fresh fruit, daily diabetic jellies and biscuits and cheese. It is the same health board.

Poor show when a staff member refuses to make porridge of a morning that was the case in our ward.  It was the on going joke.

I thought it would be better as I’ve been out six weeks and sadly still the same.  There needs to accountability.   Still no sign of fresh fruit on wards. The meals I’ve witnessed are poor -   people are bring food in for loved ones.  It is  not good for recovery. I witnessed this on a daily basis as I have a loved one facing same experience. I do not see why nursing and care staff should take the flack daily. Greater monitoring accountability and on ward catering management .

I apologies if my review upsets a few but this is a frank and true review.

Dear Lindsay925

Thank you for taking your time to share your feedback whilst being a patient in the Royal Alexandra Hospital. It is disappointing to read about experiences and please accept my apologies for your experience. I have shared your feedback with my colleagues in Facilities who are responsible for the Catering, and they would like to discuss your concerns with you. Would you be able to get in touch via email with your contact details and I can arrange for them to get in touch? (PatientExperience@ggc.scot.nhs.uk)

I hope you are feeling better.

Kind Regards

Nicole
